The Miami Heat acquired point guard Goran Dragic in a trade with the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, Yahoo Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Dragic had a career year with the Suns last season, averaging 20.3 points and 5.9 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field and 41 percent from 3-point range. But the Suns added fellow point guard Isaiah Thomas in free agency during the offseason, complicating their backcourt rotation.
That did not sit well with Dragic, who told the Suns on Tuesday that he would not re-sign with them this offseason and would prefer to be dealt before Thursday’s deadline. He then went a step further Wednesday, telling reporters he did not like his change in role and that he had lost trust in the Suns’ front office.
With the Suns relying more on Thomas and Eric Bledsoe to be the primary ball-handlers, Dragic saw his usage rate decrease this season, which led to drops in every major statistical category from last season.
According to multiple reports, Dragic gave the Suns a list of teams to which he would like to be traded, which included the Lakers, Knicks and Heat.
