Over 1 million people were expected to line Woodward Avenue in Detroit this past weekend to either cruise or watch the cars go by. If you’ve never been to a Woodward, you really should check it out. If there is any particular type of car or truck you fancy, you will likely see it drive by or parked alongside the avenue between the suburbs of Ferndale and Royal Oak. There was also a strong manufacturer presence there. Here’s some of the things you missed by not being there.
We Drove the Rumble Bee
Ram graciously provided us with their one-off Rumble Bee concept truck to cruise the weekend in. Be sure to check out our first impressions of the truck over on TFLtruck, and stay tuned for a full review and video of the beast.
Hellcats Were Everywhere
It’s common for manufacturers to send prototypes and pre-production cars out on to Woodward to build excitement. I saw several 2015 Mustangs, and loads of new 2015 Dodge Challengers. Among those Challengers included several SRT Hellcat versions. One was even driven by Richard Rawlings of Gas Monkey Garage.
It’s the Friendliest Traffic Jam
Despite the huge traffic jam, everyone is extremely friendly. Almost everyone drives with their windows down, asking questions about each others’ cars. Also, everyone will let you in. You’d think crossing four lanes of traffic this gridlocked would be a nightmare, but it’s actually pretty easy. Everyone is accommodating.
We Saw a Flock of DeLoreans
We ran into a group of DeLoreans that appeared to be filming a documentary or other form of video from a camera car. They were driving with their doors open, and it’s a sight to see when they are coming up from behind four-wide.
Check out a few more photos from the 2014 Woodward Dream Cruise below, and make sure you check in with TFLtruck for the Rumble Bee video!
